Kedarkantha is a 5-day trek in Govind Pashu Vihar National Park in Uttarakhand. It is one of the most popular winter treks in India. This trek can be accessed by three different routes – from Sankri, Kotgaon and Gaichwan Gaon. Your stay will be at a comfortable homestay/lodge in Kotgaon. The summit climb of Kedarkantha is a very rewarding one. As you start your trek early in the morning and steadily climb up and when the Sun rises, the world opens up around you.
ITINERARY:
Day 1: Drive to Sankri (6,400 ft) from Dehradoon (220 kms | 9 – 10 hours drive):
We start from Dehradoon, all trekkers arrive before 6 AM and we start our drive to Sankri at 6:30 AM.
The drive from Dehradoon to Sankri is 220 kms and will approximately be 10 hours long. Sankri is located at an altitude of 6400 feet.
Day 2: Sankri to Juda ka Talab (9100 ft | 5 Kms | 4 – 5 hours hike):
On day 2, we begin the trek towards Juda ka Talab located at an altitude of 9100 feet. By afternoon, we cover approximately 5 kms in 5 hours.
Get ready to experience the diverse adventures on the trail!
The trek will start with a beautiful pine and maple forest that will further rise alongside the wildlife as well as pastures. As you trail upwards, we spot some beautiful huts alongside the fields.
While trekking, we see a goliath lake on the left and thick pine and oak backwoods on the other side.
Jadu ka Talab is a stunning lake surrounded by pine trees and often freezes during winters, a spot for fun activities for the trekkers.
Day 3: Juda ka Talab to Talketra (11,000 ft) (Kedarkantha base) (3.5 – 4 Kms | 3 hours hike):
Day 3 – the shortest day of the whole trek, starts through dense forest of pine and oak trees and passes. After about an hour’s hike the gradual ascend begins and ends almost near the campsite.
Enjoy the spectacular views enroute the base camp and encounter stunning views of different peaks like Bandarpoonch, Swargrohini, Kala Nag as well as Ranglana that stand with great pride in the lap of mother nature.
Day 4: Talketra to the Summit (12,500 ft), back to the base camp for lunch and hike down to Hargaon (8900 ft) (6 kms | 7 – 8 hours hike):
The longest day of the trek as we head towards the Kedarkantha peak.
We trek from 11,250 ft to 12,500 ft and trek for approximately 6 kms covered in 7 hours.
The initial hike is slightly challenging because of the low temperature and also the gradual ascend. We take ample breaks till we reach the summit.
At the Kedarkantha peak, treat your eyes with the stunning views of Bandarpooch, Swargarohini, Kalanaag, Gangotri as well as Yamunotri.
At the top, we explore around a small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati along with a small shrine of Lord Ganesh too
Depending on the weather condition we spend about 30 minutes at the summit, soaking in the magnificent 360 degree views from the top, and after a quick lunch we start descending towards the Hargaon campsite for the night stay.
Day 5: Hargaon to Sankri (6 Kms | 3 hours hike), Drive back to Dehradoon from Sankri (9 – 10 hours drive):
Day 5 is marked for descending further to Sankri from Hargaon Camp, from 8900 ft to 6400 ft.
The time for descending the 6 kms long trail will approximately be 4 hours.
After reaching Sankri, we have quick refreshments and drive to Dehradoon. We reach Dehradoon by night.

It’s advisable to withdraw money in Rishikesh/Dehradoon before leaving to Sankri.

Cancellation Policy:
For the cancellation of a trek due to any unavoidable situation has to be notified in writing.
- Cancellation 30 days before the start of the trek – refund of the trek fees with 10% cancellation charges.
- Cancellation between 30 to 20 days before the start of the trek – refund of the trek fees with 20% cancellation charges.
- Cancellation between 20 to 10 days before the trek – refund of the trek fees with 30% cancellation charges.
- Cancellation less than 10 days before the trek – refund of the trek fees with 50% cancellation charges.
